In December 2018, Metro City experienced inflation of 0.27 percent due to an increase in the index from 139.06 in November 2018 to 139.44 in December 2018. Six expenditure groups contributed to the formation of inflation, namely the foodstuffs group by 0.1842 percent ; processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group at 0.0367 percent; followed by housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 0.0258 percent; clothing group by 0,0134 percent; health group by 0.0108 percent and the transportation, communication and financial services group by 0.0052 percent. In contrast, one expenditure group contributed to the formation of deflation namely the education, recreation and sports group by 0.0030 percent
Some of the commodities that predominantly contributed to inflation included chicken eggs, catfish, shallots, filtered clove cigarettes, household fuels, oranges, bananas, live chickens, chicken meat and clove cigarettes.
Inflation in Metro City was ranked 68th, out of 82 cities observed in price developments, 80 CPI cities experienced inflation and 2 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Kupang at 2.09 percent and the lowest inflation experienced by Banda Aceh was 0.02 percent. While the highest deflation occurred in Sorong by 0.15 percent and the lowest deflation occurred in Kendari at 0.09 percent.
Metro City, in December 2018 based on the calculation of inflation for the calendar year (Point to Point) is 1.64 percent and inflation year on year (YoY) is 1.64 percent.
